Blog Journal #5 (Due 10/9/17)

Because Web 2.0 tools are mores sophisticated and interactive, I would consider many of them useful. For example, blogs, wikis, and youtube, are all tools I have used in the classroom setting before, or am using now in this class, and I find them very helpful. Web 2.0 tools such as twitter and social media are not as vital or hard to teach without in the classroom setting. For example, the podcast explains that teachers may use a blog every day to keep their students up to date, or use youtube to pull up relevant videos or music to a topic the students are learning about. ELA standards should not be so strict that they restrict Web 2.0 tools, which may help to enhance student learning on a day to day basis.

One interesting Web 2.0 tool that may be helpful in a classroom setting is the website "diigo". We just used it this class and it could be potentially very helpful for teachers and students. The tool allows you to annotate and share websites with people in a group, as well as create your own library of annotated websites. This could be helpful for a classroom to be able to communicate and share sources via this website, while allowing the teacher to supervise the websites students are using. Here is a link to diigo if you want to check it out! https://www.diigo.com

The idea of "gamification", or incorporating online games into everyday lessons and learning is a concept that not only is already starting to be used in classrooms, but I believe shows great promise in the future of technology in the classroom. As the textbook puts it, adding "game elements to instructional content [may] increase motivation and interactivity, encourage creativity, and deepen understanding of content". I think that the next generation will be raised in an even more technologically advanced society where gaming will be a way of life and enjoyment for them, so incorporating it in the classroom may be a way to keep students engaged.
