Journal #8 (Due 10/30/17)
Adaptive technologies allow teachers to support all different kinds of learners in the classroom. There are many forms of adaptive technology from online personalized learning programs, to cooperative programs like Diigo and Google Docs, to new technology such as 3D pens and smart boards. The development of these adaptive technologies allows students to learn any which way they can best (whether they are kinesthetic, auditory, or visual learners). I have used some adaptive technologies before, as I am sure many people have. The thing is, everyone uses ones that work best for them and they use them in different ways, so although most people have experience with adaptive technology of some type, everyone's experience is a little bit different. Along with all types of technology, adaptive technology in the classroom poses a distraction for students. As well, any adaptive technology that I allow in my classroom one day I will need to know how to use, which means I will need to be continuously learning and keeping up with new developments.
Powerpoint can be useful in supporting student learning at each level of Bloom's Taxonomy. Level 1, remember, can be integrated with powerpoint as it is easy to go through definitions on a powerpoint. Level 2, understand, can be integrated with powerpoint because you can use graphs, charts, and visuals on powerpoint to help explain concepts. Level 3, apply, can be integrated with powerpoint because students can use what they have learned to create their own powerpoint. Level 4, analyze, can be integrated with powerpoint through students presenting on how they apply a concept and analyzing perhaps a science experiment they conducted, for example. They could also easily present data through powerpoint. Level 5, evaulate, can be integrated with powerpoint because students who present with powerpoint have a lot of freedom as to how they show they have examined, or justified a theory or concept they are learning about. Finally, level 6, create, can easily be integrated with powerpoint, because students who use powerpoint are creating a work of their own, no matter what they decide to do.
